Families and communities raised the money for bond, but many of the workers swept up in the Glenn Valley raid are still being held in detention.
Today we know why.
The Department of Homeland Security recently directed ICE agents to keep certain detained immigrants in detention — even if bond was approved — for the entire duration of their case, which can take months or even years.
Now, even those with no criminal record and who have deep roots in their communities are going to be held indefinitely.
For those detained in the Glenn Valley raid who haven’t been released yet, the chance to return home to their families has slipped further away. For those who already had their bond approved, who paid in full and were expecting to be released, they remain in detention at Lincoln County Jail.
Many in our community donated to help get people out on bond, but now, because of the sudden shift, they remain in custody.
The system is being made more chaotic and more cruel.
CIRA isn’t backing down. We’re working with our partners and private attorneys to push for due process and fairness.
Our community, and the people in it, are worth fighting for.
